So I only half jokingly told a co-worker I was leaving to go sit in the Queensway parking lot. Damned if that's what I actually did. Holy crap. It took me over and hour and a half to get home tonight. Might have something to do with the weather though. It snowed most of the afternoon. The roads aren't bad now, but it's been raining since about 4PM. The guys at work were definately right about driving in Ottawa in the winter. It sucks. Apparently it only gets worse. Maybe I'll be taking the bus to work for the winter! ACK!

Well. Now I know. I do still have a job with Nortel, we got told this morning. Damn this sucks. So many people getting dumped. Blech. Oh well. Guess I just have to try and pick it up and keep going. Don't know who is actually getting the better deal yet, that's left to be seen. Anyways, I'm probably heading to bed now. I'm drained. I can't do this right now.

Holy crap! It's blowing a gale out there right now. I think I could have left my truck in neutral and blown home on the Queensway! DAMN! Oh, so had a great discussion at work today about drivers and trucks. It was fun. Had one of the regulars going nuts about how rotten trucks were and all this stuff. Ended up finding out in the end that he drove a Jetta that had been modified so it could go faster. hehehe. Silly person. Doesn't see past the end of his nose. Oh well. It actually all started out because of some posts about bad drivers. I happened to mention the person in the Jetta that cut me off this morning. Funny thing is, a much similar but potentially worse situation happened on my way home. This time it was a guy in a minivan with a cellphone. At least the Jetta driver signalled, this guy just hauled into my lane, braking hard. I wasn't too happy since I ended up on the shoulder avoiding him. Gack. Worst part about the whole deal, I wasn't even speeding! hehe. At least with the Jetta I was in the fast lane. This time I was going about 80 in the right hand lane since traffic was starting to backup. Crazy!

Damn! I did one of the stupidest things today on my way home. It's piss-pouring rain so the 417 was crawling as per usual. I was in the wrong lane and had to get right so I see a nice big opening infront of a transport. Unfortunately, as soon as I started moving into the space, the cars in front of the transport started braking hard. Yikes! Good thing the trucker was on the ball because he was able to stop in time. Lucky for me I was also able to stop in time! Damn! That's what happens when you miss the exit you intended to take. DOH!

Well, I made it through Monday. Still no word on layoffs. I guess I get to sit and wonder for another week. Blech.

Gack. I am completely out of it tonight. My brain just doesn't want to do anything. Work sucks right now with this stupid layoff shit over my head all day every day. I wonder if getting "the call" would be better. At least then I'd know one way or another what was going on! I'm just pissy now. Everything annoys the hell out of me. Fuck it. I'm going to bed.

Hey! DOES workie from workie!! cool. I wonder how that happened. Hmm. It doesn't normally work on my HPUX box. Wierdness. I might have to play with that a bit tomorrow. :)

Woo-hoo! Well, I just got back with my replacement scanner and it's looking really good! :) The people at Staples were great about the whole thing and even said that if I had problems with this one that I should bring it back for another. Sweetness! Let's hope it keeps working fine for the rest of it's useful life! Well, that or die before next Monday! :)

Another day ends and I still have a job. Wonderful... I think.

Wonderful. Well, looks like the safe aspect of my job has gone. Layoffs are now hitting my area and if I still have a job by the end of next week, I'll be one step closer to being OK for another couple seconds. Shitty. I just want to know now if I'm getting laid off. Then I can get started on finding a new job. Worst part about this is that even if I do survive the layoffs, do I really want to keep my job? It's going to be nuts. Once everything turns around (assuming I'll see that in my life time!) people are going to jump ship fast because of all this crap. Blech.

CBC News: Nortel slashes 19,500 more jobs, announces new CEO Wonderful eh? Well I've still got a job and I guess I'll still have a job until at least the 15th since they can't lay me off when I'm not there! Man this sucks. I'm "relatively safe" in my department, but all told, I'm not sure if that holds true any more. I guess I'll just have to wait and see, attempting not to worry a hole in my gut. Blech. Finding a new job right now would really suck.
