A sporadically updated account of my days

Penny stock, not a penny stock. Penny stock, not a penny stock. Today Nortel has been floating around the US$1.00 mark. Crazy! It's worth about 1% of what it peaked at back in 2000.

Well, things are slowly getting back into a some sort of "normal" at work. It's still too damn quiet at work. There's nothing going on to distract me for a couple minutes here and there. No banter on how bad a call the ref made in the soccer game. No poking fun at people posting on the newsgroups. I miss those little breaks in the day. It's not the same now at all and I doubt it will ever be the same as long as I am in this job. If I moved to some other company it may get back to that state but I can't do that now. No opportunities and hey, who knows, I might get nailed on Thursday. The analysts are predicting more layoffs and they really haven't been that far off up until now. Who knows, I may get that summer vacation afterall. ;)

Damn it's quiet. Here I am siting in my corner cube looking out the window and damn it's quiet. All I can hear is the stupid AC blowing air in. Layoffs Suck.

Holy crap! Well, somehow I've managed to survive another round of layoffs. Well, depends on what you call survival I guess. My group got split in half. My manager got laid off too. Holy crap. So, now I'm down to one reason why I wanted to come back to this job - I liked the job. The two people who I came back for have both been laid off. Now its just a job. Wonderful. I've got some beer with my name on it.

[ivany.org] :: fun with a webcam Now you can watch Corn Snake TV! hehehe. This has to be the stupidest idea yet, but I want to be able to see my little corn snake while at work. I just discovered that the webcam software I'm using allows you to setup for motiojn detecting. Cool. I hope it works for capturing the snake motion because it's pretty small in that huge terrarium. Oh, yeah, so I now have a corn snake! heheh. Great fun. It hatched sometime between February 28 and March 2 this year and it's just over 15 inches long right now. I still need to come up with a name!

CBC News: Earthquake rattles Quebec, Ontario COOL! hehe. And I thought it was just my imagination that the bed was doing this funky shimmy for a good couple seconds early this morning! I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. The wall was vibrating, the bed shaking. cool! Anyhoo, I finally got my tires switched so now I'm, running on my crappy all-seasons again instead of my slightly less crappy all-seasons. Hehehe. Now I just need to get my oil changed and it will be all good. I was going to do that today but I pulled in and there was a HUGE lineup so I figured I'd wait until Monday after work. Usually a much better idea.

SQOTD: You've just merged into traffic on a very busy highway with 4 lanes going in your direction. Do you: a) Stay in your wide open lane and start to accelerate? b) Stay in your wide open lane with your left turn signal on and accelerate? c) Move into the wide open lane to the left of you once you have checked that there is nothing there (there isn't)? d) Slow down to half the speed limit and have your passenger try and tell you when to change lanes instead of making use of the wide open lane in front of you! Seems that D was the only choice today. Holy CRAP. So I'm cruisin' home in the right lane, not even speeding for once, and this older woman is merging in from the right. No problem, I slow down to give her lots of room. Nope, by the time the merge lane is coming to and end, I'm braking hard and leaning on the horn to try to let her know she can come into the lane. So, that's done. Now what does she do with this wonderfully wide open lane? She starts to slow down because the sun was behind us and she couldn't see in her mirror. No problem. The person in the passenger seat tells her that it's ok for her to go left. She is about half way into the lane when someone starts to come up in it (since we're only doing about 50-60km/h now) which spooks the hell out of her. She swerves back into my lane and starts to slow down again. All this time the lane in front of her is still wide open. Jesus! I look in my mirror, nothing coming, think to myself, I could go around, nope, that's just an accident waiting to happen. SO I wait. Eventually the co-driver convinces elderly woman to change lanes and then I am finally able to get going. Sort of funny because the woman basically changed lanes just in time to get stuck in the bumper to bumper traffic that was in the other three lanes. Very silly. Anyhoo. Once again I get to laugh at the terrible driving skills of someone else.

Blech. What a rotten day. Stupid stuff going wrong at work today and idiots on the roads. What else is new? I don't think I'd have any problem if it became illegal for people to talk on a cell phone and drive. No. I wouldn't have a problem at all if they did that.

Well, Dave and I finally got to see Ferriswheeler last night. Sort of a funny story. Dave had one of the emails saying they were playing at Cafe Dekcuf about two weeks ago. As it turned out, they had to reschedule that date and someone else was playing Dekcuf. Then we thought it was last week, but that was just a big oops. So finally, we got to see Ferriswheeler last night! heheh. Those four put on a really great show. Very tight, well balanced and the sound was amazing. They started out just jamming. Amazing. Songs would start and then drift into some other song only to come back. to the original song. U2 and Blind Melon were the two I recognized but I'm sure there were more. Dr Huxtable took over the stage in a rather interesting manner. They swapped in one instrument at a time. Wicked! These guys were good and, according to Dave, it helped that they had a hot singer. ;) Well, here's where it gets a little bad. Dr Huxtable is extremely tight and work well together, but they need to trim down the jams that don't go anywhere. 30 minutes into them playing and they'd only done three songs, the first of which was the one that they swapped into. They have huge potential but unfortunately I was bored most of the time they played. A couple good hooks would bring me back, but then it would revert to boring jamming with no purpose. Don't get me wrong, jamming is great, as long as it is going somehwere. Repeating the same little rift a couple times because it sounds good the first time through is OK. Repeating it 10 or more times is going to bore the hell out of me. Anyways, Ferriswheeler rocked out as usual. Amazing! Dr Huxtable has huge potential once they decide to play songs instead of just standing up there playing stuff that fits together all night.

I was poking around in my massive collection of papers and junk and I came across the letter I got back on lay off day. Great fun. I also found a lot of other pictures and papers that I had been looking for. Like my 2000 Assessment Notice. hehe. Oops.

Snow! Wow. I think we've had more snow in the past three days than we did all winter. Crazy. Well, I was crazy to think I could drive home without having stupid people being morons. hehehe. What a drive. It's amazing how stupid people get when there is snow. Like the guy who locked up his truck on the 417 in front of me because someone in the lane beside him turned off at an exit. Dumbass. Anyhoo, I've got to figure out how to create a better photo gallery. There's got to be some way to make it easier to manage.

Oh! And I nearly forgot, I have the Love Machine picture online now.

Hmm, it's been a while hasn't it? ;) So the new UPS got it's first trial this evening. I had a very brief power hit tonight and the UPS seamlessly picked up the slack. Gave me a nice little beep warning and popped up a little window on the desktop to tell me the status. Cool! Spent a good chunk of the evening scanning in a whole bunch of new pictures so now there's a lot more in the photos section. Great fun. Well, since I can't seem to type very well right now, I'm going to go to bed. hehe. ;)

Well hello yellow! ;) Now this has to be one of the craziest colour schemes I have ever come up with. I started out with a much more orange background but it was just too much! This yellow is pretty crazy but I'm really starting to like it. Oh, I've been playing around with CSS (stylesheets) so now I've got funky text and stuff. hehe. Damn I need to find something to do with my life. The only shitty part about this whole re-design is that I toasted my script that updated the cam picture automagically. Crapola! Oh well, I'll figure it out again sometime. I hope. ;)
